ABOUT CITY CHURCH

PASTOR SCOTT ANDERSON
LEAD PASTOR
Scott Anderson is the Lead Pastor here at City Church. He accepted Christ as his Savior at Fontana First Assembly when he was 18 years old. Scott and his lovely wife Diane have been married since 1989 and have been involved in ministry for over 30 years. He was not raised in the church so this allows him to have a unique view of what church is all about. Scott and Diane have two children: Caleb and Brooke.
Both Scott and Diane have been involved in the communities where they have pastored. Scott has been a Chaplain for the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department since 1997 and as a Chaplain, he provided crisis intervention counseling to the Sheriff deputies of San Diego and to the respective communities. Diane has worked outside of the home as well and has always seen it as an opportunity to be a light in the workforce.
Scott has a wide variety of favorite foods but Mexican would be at the top of the list! Nothing beats good guacamole! Diane is a meat and potatoes kind of girl. Scott loves riding his motorcycle, playing golf, and scuba diving. He also loves just hanging out with friends. His favorite sports team is the Pittsburgh Steelers. Diane enjoys a good book and spending time with family and is a DIEHARD Steelers fan by marriage!
Both Scott and Diane have a unique ability to communicate the Gospel in a meaningful and passionate way when combined with their uncompromising love for God’s people, which makes them an effective team.
I am so excited to introduce you to our church! You’ll discover that our passion is to provide a place where people just like you can have a life-changing experience with God in a safe environment!
At City Church, we continue to build on the shoulders of those who have gone before us through the years. Our doors are wide open to people from all backgrounds, regardless of where they are on their spiritual journey. What the world labels as diversity is exactly what we think heaven will be like. People of every color, nation, and language are welcome at our church.
What people usually notice first about us is the life-giving nature of our ministry. Our goal is to infuse life and God’s love into people and families through engaging, powerful worship services that offer biblical truth in relevant and practical ways.
But it won’t take you long to discover that we’re more than just a Sunday church. In fact, we’re a hub for building life-long relationships. And if you’d like to develop authentic and enduring relationships with others, you’ll be glad to know there are opportunities to do just that.
Together, we’re striving to become the kind of church described in the Bible, where there’s relevant teaching, authentic worship, honest friendships, constant prayer, and compassionate care for those in need. In short, we’d like to have the kind of contagious Christianity that can influence and encourage one life at a time.
So, whether you’re just starting to ask questions about God or you’re a committed Christian who wants to grow your faith even deeper, you can find a home here at City Church.
Like any church, City Church is not perfect – we’re a work in progress. Yet by His grace, we strive to know Him more, worship Him as we should, be conformed to His image, and reflect His likeness to those in our community. We invite you to worship with us this Sunday!
In the meantime, you’ll find everything you need right here to get connected to City Church’s online resources. You can use this site to check out other ministries, listen to one of our weekend services, find information on our life groups, or read about what’s going on around the church. You can also download our app, City. Church, on your mobile device.
We can’t wait to meet you! Please contact us if you have any questions.
Blessings,
Scott Anderson
Lead Pastor
OUR PURPOSE
Our purpose at City Church is…
“To Love God and Make a Difference.”
We filter every idea, program and budget request through our purpose statement. If what we plan doesn’t help us meet our purpose, then we don’t do it. Our statement of purpose is built on two teachings of Jesus.
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
MATTHEW 22:36-40 NIV
He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe…” Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.
MARK 16:15-17, 20 NIV
WHAT WE BELIEVE
ONE GOD – Eternally existent in three persons: the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
THE BIBLE – Is the inspired, infallible, authoritative Word of God and the source of Christian belief and teaching.
MAN – Was created in the image of God but fallen – lost and powerless to save himself.
JESUS CHRIST – Is the virgin-born Son of God and was crucified to take upon Himself the punishment for the sin of all mankind. He arose from the dead; thereby conquering sin, death and the grave. Jesus will personally return to the earth in glory and take Christians to Heaven.
MAN’S ONLY HOPE – Is to believe in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
WHAT WE CELEBRATE – Water Baptism and Holy Communion are among the ways we celebrate the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Every service is a celebration of the hope we have in Christ.
HEALING – Consistent with His ministry on earth, Jesus Christ still offers healing for our physical, relational, and emotional needs.
HOLY SPIRIT – Indwells those who receive Christ and empowers believers to live righteous and holy lives. We believe in the Baptism in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues, along with the Gifts of the Spirit found in 1 Corinthians 12. We believe these gifts are available to believers today.
LIFESTYLE – When a life is changed by the love of Christ, we begin a journey of becoming like Christ. It is displayed inwardly by joy and peace; outwardly by a life of integrity and service; and relationally by love and grace. Our lives are directed by the commandments found in God’s Word and the leadings of the Holy Spirit.
ETERNITY – Jesus will return and show himself to be King of Kings. No one knows the day or time that he will return. Life as we know it will come to an end and everyone will be held accountable for the choices in their lives. Heaven awaits those who have a personal relationship with God, without the influence of evil and pain. Separation from God (Hell) is filled with sorrow and awaits those who reject Christ as their savior.
THE CHURCH – The Body of Christ, of which Jesus Christ is the head, is comprised of believers who have been spiritually changed by the atonement of Jesus Christ and the personal work of the Holy Spirit. Christians are called to pursue God’s mission, both collectively and individually. For some it is a vocation, for all it is a passion.

OUR VALUES
PRAYER – At City Church, we pray first. “Pray continually” – 1 Thessalonians 5:17 (NIV)
TEACHING OF GOD’S WORD – At City Church, we teach to transform. “Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.” – Romans 10:17 (NIV)
AUTHENTIC COMMUNITY – At City Church, ministry flows out of relationships. “Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” – Acts 2:46-47 (NIV)
GENERATIONS – At City Church, every generation matters. “Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations.” – Psalm 90:1 (NIV)
LEADERSHIP – At City Church, every member is a minister. “There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.” – 1 Corinthians 12:4-6 (NIV)
GENEROSITY – At City Church, we are blessed to be a blessing. We live to give. “And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else.” – Acts 17:25 (NIV)
ACCEPTANCE – At City Church, we say to all ‘You can Belong! “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” – John 3:16 (NIV)
EXCELLENCE – At City Church, excellence matters by giving Him our best. “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” – Philippians 4:8 (NIV)
